Are you ready to find out what’s all out there about NDIS nursing care? We will describe the service, give you quick tips and introduce our way of providing this service at Devote Care. Let’s dive in.

NDIS nursing care is slightly different from regular nursing services, so if you are an NDIS participant and receive nursing care, it might come in handy to explore the details. This way, you can make the most out of your NDIS plan.

Regarding nursing services, there are two main types of funding: NDIS and state health system. NDIS only funds specific nursing services related to your disability. These fall under two categories:

  • Capacity building
  • Assessment

You can see these services in your NDIS plan. They will appear in the Support Area, Improved Daily Living.

If there are other nursing services regarding your disability but are not capacity building or assessment, those will also be covered but not by the NDIS.

All other nursing care will be subject to state health system coverage because NDIS’s primary purpose is to empower you in the long run, giving you independence.

NDIS Nursing Care

As we mentioned, NDIS nursing care is all about capacity building and assessment. So, let’s briefly discuss these concepts.

In capacity building, a nurse will train you or someone else, like a support worker, to help you with a specific issue, such as regular wound care.

When it comes to assessment, a nurse will assess your health to determine what services you need and the required level of support.

For example, if NDIS participant Amy breaks her arm and needs nursing services, this won’t be considered NDIS nursing care since this injury is unrelated to her disability.

You can check out more case examples here at the NDIS official website.

3 Essentials When Choosing NDIS Nursing Care

Now that you know what NDIS nursing care is all about let’s continue with some tips to make the best out of your nursing care. We put together three essentials to look for when choosing nursing care.

1- Nursing Care Specialisation

When choosing a nursing care provider, an essential element to look for is whether you can find specialised care or not. Only specialised nurses can take care of high-intensity support. We don’t refer to nurse specialisations as in aged care or critical care. Some trained nurses are experts in solving specific problems, such as complex wound care. Therefore, finding the NDIS provider with the right specialisation is vital. To find out whether your NDIS provider is specialised for your needs, don’t hesitate to check out their website or give them a call. In some cases, you might be able to connect with your nurse directly via video call.

2- Provider’s Reputation

All nursing care, including NDIS or regular nursing, is highly personal. That’s why choosing an NDIS provider with a good reputation in NDIS nursing care can be critical in reaching your life goals. You might be wondering how to do that. Start by leveraging your friends and family network. If you want a more objective point of view, you can check out online reviews on Google or Bing. A fair bit of warning is that a service such as nursing could be highly subjective, so it’s best to rely on the overall rating of the NDIS provider.

3- Location

As with everything, the location of your NDIS nursing care provider is crucial. Whether you receive nursing at home or in the provider’s place, a close by provider will make all the difference. That’s why you can search for your nursing care provider by location in the provider finder. Provider finder allows you to filter NDIS providers by postal code, suburb, state and territory. There is also a section called registration group where you can choose the type of service. In this case, you can select community nursing care for high needs to get a list of NDIS nursing care providers.
